Called after the famous traders street in Edinburgh, the brooch shows the the heart combined with the symbol of Scotland, the thistle. The original of this brooch is dated in the 15th century. Mary Stuart , queen of Scottland should have owned a brooch of this kind.

Until the 18th century Luckenbooth brooches were worn as a traditional wedding brooch given to the bride by the groom of their wedding day as a lucky charm and symbol of love.
