Product Details

Richly decorated officers glaive after a find from the Teutoburg battle field in Kalkriese, the place of the great battle between Varus and the German Arminius, 9 AD.
Scabbard richly decorated with sterling silver and precious gemstones, such as a big garnet with the engraving of Thalia. Thalia was one of the three graces in greek mythologie.

Within the augustean period, this glaive had been repared. A banded agate was placed into the mounting of another gemstone which had been lost, probably it had been also a garnet. The third mounting was empty, we decided to put also a banded agate at this place.
Bone handle and walnut wood handle.
Handforged steel blade. Wooden scabbard, covered with red vegetably tinned leather.
