we know a lot of finds of legionnary rings depicting the symbols of the roman legion LEG XI. Most of them are intaglio rings. This ring is reproduced after a 1/2nd century find from a ring in private collection depicting the letters of the LEGXI and the abreviation CLAV for claudia pia fidelis cut in a niccolo gem as a cameo. In antiquity cameo were hard to engrave and very expensive and exclusive , so often they were mostly given as military decoration for honored officers.
